Canyon de Chelly

Canyon de Chelly

This canyon is on Navajo Tribal lands.  It is run by the National Park service but the rv campground is run by the Navajo.  The rv park was nice, but no hookups at all.  So you are sort of “camping.”  At least as much camping as one can do in a 40 ft motorhome.  We were happy with the endurance of our batteries, running the furnace a bit in the morning to take the chill off, running lights at night, etc.    We used our generator for morning coffee and to top off the batteries.

The picture does not capture the beauty.

Buster enjoyed the view but not so much looking over the edge.

"The Ancients" live here.  Visitors cannot go into the canyon without a Navajo guide.
Navajos lived in the valley.  They raised cattle, goats, crops and had a beautiful river that ran past their farms.

This horse was way down by the canyon edge.  I don't know how he got down there or how he'll get back out.

Dale did a little hiking.
More ruins seen from the canyon rim with a good zoom camera.

More hiking.  There was only one trail to take to the canyon floor without  a guide.
